In order to successfully sell a digital product in an online store, it is important to create it or have it readily available for sale. Firstly, have a clear understanding of the product you are offering your audience. Now, if you are currently without a product, I have a few recommendations that will help you in your decision. Here are some of them:

1. E-books: They come in various types and forms. It could be fictional books, like children’s fantasy books, or an activity book, like a colouring book. There are also digital planners, recipe books, and so on.

2. Tutorials and Courses

3. Digital sounds and music.

Remember, your product represents your brand's identity, so take your time to ensure it's visually appealing and valuable to customers. Additionally, we also have a simple and straightforward video on creating captivating covers. This is important because it will determine whether or not a person will be drawn to your digital product.

Step #2: Set up your Shopify store

If you want to sell on Shopify, the first step is to set up your Shopify store. It is a simple process, which would take about five minutes. Right now, Shopify is offering a really good deal: a three-day free trial, with $1/month for the first three months after you sign up.

Free tip: Once you are in your dashboard, extend the Shopify trial to three months; this will allow more time to set up.

On the bottom right, a pop-up will notify you about the start of your trial period. The next step is to select a plan; without a paid plan, the features available to you will be largely limited. They offer different plans, and your choice is solely based on your preferences, such as the size and needs of your store. The basic plan is a good place to start, and you can upgrade as you progress.

Next, complete the on-boarding process, like setting up your domain, payment information, theme, and checkout process. After this, the features will be available to you for the next three months, and you can cancel your subscription plan at any time. Add your store name and password, then proceed with the prompts provided on the platform. To complete the signup process, go ahead with the prompts provided, answer the questions, choose a password, until you get to your dashboard.

To set up your theme, you can choose any of the provided ones to customise it to your preference.

Step #3: Enable digital downloads for your products

Once in your dashboard, navigate to the left side of the menu, click on the apps icon, and in the search bar, type digital downloads”. This prompt will automatically take you to the app store. Find the Shopify digital downloads app and add it to the store. Once this is added, install it, and it will take you to the products page.

Now, you are ready to describe your product. There are other options to this which can also achieve the same results. A good alternative is Sky Pilot digital downloads; it has a free plan available that can easily access when you scroll down. They also have different plans, but you can go with the free plan available with up to 100MB file storage and 2GB of monthly bandwidth. If you will need more space, you could upgrade to one of their premium plans. Just like the Shopify digital download app, all you have to do is install it. The next step is adding your product on Sky Pilot.

Go ahead to add the product, then activate the download feature for your digital product. Search for your product and then click on the icon to upload your file for download. This is exactly what your customers are going to get when they purchase your digital product. After this, do not forget to turn on the “mark as fulfilled” option- this will relieve you from the task of always completing orders for customers manually. Now, head over to the store, select your product, click buy, and you will be taken to the checkout page. Once your order is completed, Shopify will not ask your customer to enter any shipping details because it is a digital product.

Step #4: Create product listings

Your product listings are the most crucial part of your Shopify store. Your listings are more than just images on a screen, it serves as a tool to persuade your customers about why exactly they need to purchase your digital product. It has to be compelling, concise, clear, and persuasive. If it is done well, it can successfully increase your sales and drive traffic.

How to get started:

1. Navigate to the product section on your dashboard.

2. Click "Add Product" and fill in the following: title, description, images, and prices. Give an in-depth description of what your digital product is about. (Remember to use keywords in your listings to improve visibility).

3. Make sure the product is active, save, and review the list.

4. Add a digital file and upload: Once the file is saved, click on more options and then add your digital files - this is where you upload your digital products. Once you find your products, click on the publish icon; this will make the product available in the media. After this, add the file, and then the option to add the front-facing cover that will be available on Shopify will be displayed. It is a relatively simple process.

Step #5: Launch your store and start selling
